Several
members of the chapter attended the 2007 AALNC
Educational Conference April 25-28, 2007 at the Renaissance
Austin in Austin, TX . Members not only reaped the
benefit of continued education but reunited with other
AALNC members. A pool side social was hosted by the West
Virginia Upper Ohio Valley Chapter and attended by members
of the Pittsburgh Chapter. The social proceeded to
a French cuisine restaurant and lasted well into the late
hours of the evening. Attendees decided to make this an
annual affair at the AALNC Educational Conference.

Members of the West Virginia Upper Ohio Valley Chapter
AALNC were honored to have Teresa Toriseva , Esquire
, speak on the topic of price fixing at their April 2007 meeting.
Attorney Toriseva informed those in attendance of price
fixing as defined in the Sherman Act, practical applications,
violation of the act, and punishment. Ms. Toriseva
is a frequent lecturer regarding pharmaceutical litigation.
She is the incoming President of the West Virginia Association
for Justice (formerly the West Virginia Trial Lawyers
Association ) and is a sustaining member of AAJ . Ms.
Toriseva is an equity partner at the law firm of
Wexler Toriseva Wallace LLP in Wheeling, West Virginia. Her firm also has offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Sacramento, California. |

Chapter would like to recognize our chapter member, Linda Wiater
R.N. who spoke at the November 4, 2006 Pittsburgh Chapter fall
conference "A Stroke in Time: Medical and Legal Issues
in Acute Stroke Care" at the St. Ferdinand Clark Auditorium,
Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. We congratulate Linda on her
outstanding presentation of the evaluation of a case for merit
from the plaintiff perspective. |

The
American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board has announced
that Linda J. Hatcher, R.N., LNCC, Legal Nurse Consultant
with Burns, White & Hickton, LLC, in Wheeling, WV, since
2004, has achieved the status as Legal Nurse Consultant Certified
(LNCC). This has been designated after she successfully met
the requirements through examination and other means that
validate qualifications, knowledge and practice in the field
of legal nurse consulting. LNCC is the only legal nurse consulting
credential recognized by American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants (AALNC) and accredited by the American Board of
Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
At
Burns, White & Hickton, Linda works with attorneys in
the defense of insurance companies and their insureds in the
areas of medical malpractice and personal injury. Prior to
working with Burns, White & Hickton, clinically Linda
had worked for 18 years at OVMC in Wheeling, WV, and East
Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, OH, in the areas
of critial care, operating room, PACU and radiology- special
procedures.
Linda
is a founding member of the WV Upper Ohio Valley Chapter AALNC,
and has served in many executive positions, including Treasurer,
Board of Directors, President-Elect and is to assume role
of President in January. She also Chairs the Membership Committee
and is the chapter Historian. Linda is also a member of the
WV Bar Association LNC Section.
Linda is married to Willie Hatcher and reside
in Wheeling, WV. They have a daughter, Stefanie and a son,
Andrew.

Nurse Consultant with Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC,
Wheeling, WV, since 1996, has achieved the status as Legal Nurse
Consultant Certified (LNCC). This has been designated after
she successfully met the requirements through examination and
other means that validate qualifications, knowledge and practice
in the field of legal nurse consulting. LNCC is the only legal
nurse consulting credential recognized by American Association
of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) and accredited by the American
Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
At
Steptoe and Johnson, Sue works with attorneys in the defense
of insurance companies and their insureds in the areas of
medical malpractice and personal injury. In addition, she
sits on the office Wellness Committee and is Chair of the
AED Program. Prior to working with Steptoe and Johnson, Sue
had worked for 13 years as a critical care nurse at OVMC,
Wheeling, WV, and West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Sue
is a founding member of the WV Upper Ohio Valley Chapter AALNC,
is a past-president of that organization and currently sits
on its Board of Directors, serving as Director-at-Large, and
Co-Chair of the Education Committee. Sue is also a founding
member of the WV Bar Association LNC Section.
She lives in Canonsburg, PA and is married to Jeff Blackhurst,
a CRNA.
They have a son, Jonathan, and a daughter, Hilary.

As a Registered Nurse, Debbie has over 20 years of clinical
experience. Prior to working at Hill, Toriseva and Williams,
Debbie was employed at Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh,
PA, Trinity Medical Center in Steubenville, OH and the Weirton
Medical Center . Debbie is a member of the American Association
of Legal Nurse Consultants and the West Virginia Upper Ohio
Valley Chapter of the AALNC, where she served as a Member
of the Board of Directors for 2005, and presently serves as
Treasurer and also Chair of the Website Committee. Additionally
she is a founding member of the WV Bar Association, Legal
Nurse Consultant Section.
Debbie
is married to Alan Pritts. They have two daughters, Chelsey
and Alanna, and they reside in Weirton, WV . |
