This session discusses the issues involved in title insurance underwriting issues, including surveys, powers of attorney, churches and religious organizations, and issues pertaining to commercial transactions.

Presenter Bio: 

Dan Lutz, Esq.

Dan is an Underwriting Counsel serving First American agents in Maryland and West Virginia. Dan joined the First American Agency Team in 2021 following three years serving as associate claims counsel for First American. In that role, he investigated and resolved claims, managed outside counsel’s litigation efforts, and handled recovery and loss mitigation efforts on behalf of the Company. Dan’s background also includes serving as an associate attorney for a regional law firm specializing in residential mortgage foreclosures and serving as in-house counsel for a national title insurance, search, and settlement provider. Additionally, he has experience as a petroleum landman abstracting title for mineral royalty acquisitions and ownership reports. 

Dan graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and received his Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law. He is a member of the Bar in Texas and Pennsylvania. He is dedicated to using his expertise, knowledge and problem-solving ability to resolve legal or underwriting issues presented by First American’s valued customers.
